The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) is an international organization, bringing together 34 member parliaments from the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions to discuss and face critical issues, such as regional conflicts, security and counter-terrorism, humanitarian crises, economic integration, climate change, mass migrations, education, human rights and inter-faith dialogue. It’s an Observer at the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The 9th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, hosted by the Principality of Monaco between 2 and 4 February 2015, officialised the Sovereign Order of Malta’s membership with the status of Associate State.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean and the Sovereign Order of Malta, with its membership validated during the 9th Plenary Session, confirmed their joint intention to ensure that Mediterranean parliamentarians remain well aware of the humanitarian needs of conflict-affected population.

The Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, run by the Order of Malta, has received a prestigious award from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, an international organisation consisting of representatives of national parliaments of states on the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean.

In February 2020, during the 14th Plenary Session in Athens, the Italian Relief Corps of the Order of Malta (CISOM) was honored for its medical and humanitarian support activities in the Mediterranean Sea.

More recently, during the 18th Plenary Assembly, held on 15 and 16 May 2024 in Braga, the Holy Family Hospital in Bethlehem, run by the Order of Malta, received the PAM award. Ambassador Alberto di Luca accepted the award for humanitarian or political actions in the 31 PAM member states on behalf of Grand Master Fra’ John Dunlap and Grand Hospitaller Fra’ Alessandro de Franciscis.
